Roberto Ortiz

Roberto Ortiz attended and graduated as Honor Graduate from the Jim Evans Umpire School in 2009. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey. During his umpire career his achievements include working in the minor leagues from 2009 until 2016. He made his Major League debut on May 14th, 2016 on a series double header between the Miami Marlin and the Washington Nationals. Roberto Ortiz worked the LBPRC for 3 seasons as well as the Caribbean Series in Mexico in 2020. Roberto was offered a permanent contract with MLB in 2022 becoming the first ever Puerto Rican Born umpire to achieve a permanent staff contract. On the first year of his permanent contract with MLB Roberto Ortiz was selected to umpire the 2022 Playoff Wild-Card Series between the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays. In 2023 Roberto was selected to work the Division Series Playoffs between the Houston Astros and Minnesota Twins.
